Parking lots are beat classrooms are abuzz with activity and school officials are smiling as Terra Community College has posted a near double-digit enrollment increase for go semester 2007.
Student headcount is at 2,488 a 9.3 percent jump over go 2006 while Full-Time Equivalency is at 750 up 11.7 percent.
The statistics became official on fight Day the 15th day of the semester."We are all as you can imagine thrilled with such a significant increase in our enrollments," said Dr. Marsha S. Bordner. Terra's president.
"Certainly the stand still in tuition and the availability of scholarships has had an effect on our students' ability to drop college but I'd desire to furnish the lion's share of the credit to our cater and faculty who have time after time gone the extra mile for Terra and our students. My kudos to them."
Enrollment is measured both in the actual number of students on campus as come up as FTE which is the total number of credit hours for all students registered by the census day divided by 30 credits for campuses on a semester system and 45 credits for those on a quarter system. Ohio public colleges receive funding from the state based on annual FTE.
The headcount for go 2006 the first year Terra was under the semester system was 2,277 while the FTE figure was 672. Here are numbers from previous years: go 2005 -- 2,475 students and 510 FTE. Fall 2004 -- 2,628 students and 549 FTE. Fall 2003 -- 2,572 students and 532 FTE. Fall 2002 -- 2,348 students and 490 FTE. Fall 2001 -- 2,553 students and 523 FTE.
Officials are making plans for a similar increase when spring semester begins Jan. 7.
Students make their way onto campus this morning. The traffic near and on the Terra campus on Napoleon Road has increased with the jump in student enrollment this fall.
